The Deckhand participates in the general maintenance of an inland pushboat and barges, works with lines and hard rigging and observes the transfer of products on the barges.

Serve as a deckhand on an NPS vessel in Glacier Bay, assisting with loading/unloading, line handling, safety equipment, and vessel maintenance.

Maintain and repair deck machinery aboard the hopper dredge McFarland, including winches, pumps, and drag arms. Perform carpentry and general deck upkeep.

Assist with vessel operations, docking/undocking, line handling, safe passenger loading/unloading, crowd control, stowing gear, and supporting the captain.

Deckhands build tows by handling lines and cables to tie/untie barges and boats. Deckhands also perform scheduled vessel maintenance for tools and equipment, and perform general housekeeping duties as assigned by their supervisor.
• **This is a deckhand position working on a fleet boat. This position does not follow the Tankerman Career Path.***

Role Objectives: Must work 14/7 (liveaboard) schedule and be willing to travel as needed. The role of vessel deckhand is to assist the Captain and crew in the safe, timely, efficient, and orderly operation of the company’s vessel. The vessel deckhand must be familiar with the dedicated to the passenger safety policy. Work as a team to ensure that all cargo and passenger deliveries are completed safely and in a timely manner. Performs a variety of operations involving rigging cargo for crane lifts and maintenance tasks to preserve the painted surface of the ship and to maintain line and ship equipment.
